Drying
- Some films may appear cloudy during drying while others will have small droplets or streaks. This is normal and will pass as the water evaporates through the film.
- Washing the windows is not recommended for the first 30 days.
- If you have any concerns about the film or application don't hesitate to give us a call but please don't touch it.
Cleaning your new window film
- Always check that your tools are clean.
- A synthetic kitchen sponge, microfibre cloth, or plastic chamois works well.
- A 1 litre spray bottle with warm water and a teaspoon of kitchen detergent.
- For large areas, use a bucket of soapy water and a clean window mop.
- Never use scourers, brushes or anything abrasive.
- Only use a rubber squeegee on window film, not a plastic one.
- Avoid common window cleaning liquids because most films don't like ammonia.
Click here for a page with a few beginners tips. The pictures show the equipment that I recommend, which you can get at a cleaning supply store.
These are my suggestions:
- A rectangular bucket fits the mop better.
- Where you can, squeegee from left to right (or right to left for the lefties) rather than top to bottom.
- A 400mm wide squeegee suits most people, however if you can handle it, get one that is about 5cm wider than half (or a third) of your most common window size.
- You may need more than one length rubber blade but they interchange easily if you buy a quick release handle. Otherwise you'll need a small shifter.
- A good squeegee has soft rubber.
- In our cold climate avoid squeegee handles that have bare metal.
- MAKE SURE the brass channel is in the correct way so the RUBBER is facing the glass.
- Be careful about where you poke the ends.
- Have a clean towel on hand to remove drips from edges before they run, especially at the top.
