Window Film Excellence

Family

Hi, I'm Andrew. This is my family. People often ask about how I got into the window tinting business. Answer; the long way.

Roy Sims was Managing Director of a commercial lighting manufacturer in Sydney and through a family friendship I got a job in their large sales office in 1983. I moved to Canberra in 1990, with my wife and family, as the sales representative for Pierlite, but in 1992 I started with a small company working for Laurie Laffan selling a specialised range of lighting products. One of these products was made by 3M who, incidentally, were looking for a new window film distributor in Canberra.

During these years I studied as a lighting engineer doing the Principles of Lighting Course at Petersham Tafe, then a refresher course held at ADFA, and finally, helping to run the same course. Understanding vision, the lighting environment and day light has served as a good background for window film work.

Laurie really gave me a start in the window tinting business. In 1993 I set up a company for him and over the next six years, wound back the lighting products and expended more effort promoting window film. The business grew into a good business, employing on average four window film installers.

More recently that business has changed hands twice but in mid 2000 we had opportunity to start our own window film business ABOUT WINDOWS.

About Windows is a family owned and run business. I have been on the tools since 1999 after having already trained a number of new recruits. My eldest son Dominic did a lot of casual work with me during his university studies, partly for a change of scenery but mostly to pay his bills. Our second son Jeremy has lent a helping hand on the bigger jobs for many years and joined the business full time in July 2009. The younger members of the family are showing plenty of aptitude while waiting for their turn.

In addition to window tinting, child raising and building a house I've built this web site. It's been a two year project to learn how, and then put it all together. Then in 2011 it has had a major rebuild with some help from Sozo Productions.
